Can the order of items be changed under 'new'?

In the black bar at the top of the screen there is a thing that says New with a + symbol.

Most of our editors will want to add a new task and nothing else. can this be moved to the top of the options.

I notice that if you just click new and fail to select an option it creates a new news item. This is quite easy to do by accident. I wonder if this default could be changed to a new task?
