Show Hierarchy in Media Types Dropdown on Document Finder Page

In our implementation we are planning to set up child taxonomies for document types. We plan to use this for help in organizing policy manuals. In the admin panel we can set up those parent/child relationships in the taxonomy but that is not shown on the dropdown on document finder page. Could that parent/child relationship be shown in the dropdown on the document finder page created from the media A to Z template?
There are no plans in the pipeline for this at the moment as we don’t have any clients with the requirement.
Out of interest, can you give me and example of what child items you plan to use under the policy document type?
We have five different policy manuals across our organization, and we have a child item for each. For example:
