I have had some users attempt to copy from a word document into a news article, and it adds additional formatting (Specifically double spacing). They have tried it paragraph by paragraph and all at once, the additional formatting stays. I can remove the extra spacing when I view it as “text” but that is inconvenient for the user. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I would advise against copying from Word into WordPress if it can be avoided, as it carries a lot of code with it. However, if needed, you can paste in by clicking on the ‘Edit’ menu and selecting the option, ‘Paste as Text’.
This should remove the extraneous code that creates things like the double spacing
