Tagged: breadcrumb trail
I want breadcrumbs to function intuitively in human language, but I am not there yet.
Can you help me understand better:
All tasks are created in the “how to” category
Each task in the “how to” category is also in a sub category, called “other categories”.
For example, on this Govintranet webpage, we can browse all tasks by navigating to
https://help.govintra.net/task-by-category/
If I want to narrow it down, I can filter to all tasks that are related to editing techniques:
https://help.govintra.net/task-by-category/?cat=editing-techniques
My first concern: this url is not human friendly
wouldn’t
https://help.govintra.net/task-by-category/editing-techniques
make more sense?
my second concern: if all tasks are in one category (the how-do-i category) then why are they filtered down into “other categories” – wouldn’t it be better to filter them into a tag or similar?
Next step: I click on “Create a new accessible table” within the category “editing techniques”
Logically to me as an end user, this is the breadcrumb trail: Home>How Do I>Editing Techniques> Create a new accessible table
Logically to this post/conversation, I can see how you do not put the “editing techniques” in the breadtrail – though I DO want it there in my intranet.
Next concern: the url does not line up intuitively:
wouldn’t
https://help.govintra.net/task-by-category/editing-techniques/create-a-new-accessible-table/
make more sense?
or
https://help.govintra.net/task/editing-techniques/create-a-new-accessible-table/
Luke any tips for making this work for us?
Human-readable URLS for the categories and better breadcrumbs is something that I’m looking into for the next major version of the theme. No dates yet though.
